About this deal

Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid (also known as Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson's Journal) is a Spin-Off of Jeff Kinney's series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, told in a Perspective Flip written by Greg's best friend Rowley Jefferson. It was released on April 9, 2019. Rowley’s narration is somewhat simpler than Greg’s and the book overall seems as if it will appeal more to a slightly younger market than Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It is about the same length as the average Wimpy Kid book. The font choice is different and appear a little bit larger. Rowley’s entries have no indication of days or months (like Greg’s do) and are instead represented as a collection of thoughts. Unlike Greg’s, Rowley’s characters do not have noses or ears and his drawings, in general, contains less details. Get ready for a whole new look into Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid! Introducing the newest Wimpy Kid author—Rowley Jefferson! Comically Missing the Point: Having learned about Greg's awful behavior, Rowley's parents tell him that maybe he should find some new friends. Rowley decides that Greg takes up too much of his time for that to be a possibility.

Absurdly Ineffective Barricade: During their sleepover, Greg turns on an "invisible force field" between his side of the room and Rowley's to keep him out. Said "force field" consists entirely of Greg simply yelling "ZAP!" whenever Rowley tries to cross. Subverted hilariously by the fact that this is enough to keep Rowley out of his side for the entire night. Anyway, this book was by no means terrible, but I didn't enjoy most of it. I did really like Rowley's corny superhero and how much he loved his parents. Rowley's quirky, sweet, and utterly embarrassing, but at least he's not Greg. Also, I wanted Greg to get more of a comeuppance, and the only time he was seemingly nice is when he stood up for Rowley's grade. But, of course, he had his own ulterior motives. I mean kids aren't perfect, but Greg is just nasty. A shorter Wimpy Kid story from Rowley's point of view was written to celebrate World Book Day 2019. Kinney later developed it into a full-length book, becoming Rowley Jefferson's Journal, because he enjoyed writing it. [9]Rowley complains in his diary about having to see Mr. Heffley in his underwear (briefs and shirt) when he comes to scold him and Greg for causing trouble at their sleepover.

This book shows Greg's negative traits a lot more deeply and clearly, which caused many fans to criticize Greg's behavior in this book. Horrible Judge of Character: Rowley often talks about Greg being a great friend, but Greg's actions say otherwise and it's very obvious to the reader.Rowley’s best friend Greg Heffley has been chronicling his middle-school years in thirteen Diary of a Wimpy Kid journals . . . and counting. But it’s finally time for readers to hear directly from Rowley in a journal of his own. In Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid, Rowley writes about his experiences and agrees to play the role of biographer for Greg along the way. (After all, one day Greg will be rich and famous, and everyone will want to know his life’s story.) But Rowley is a poor choice for the job, and his “biography” of Greg is a hilarious mess. Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal offers readers a new way to look at the Wimpy world—one fans won’t want to miss! Greg and Rowley try to communicate telepathically. The way this is done is similar to a question in The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book asking if you think people will have "instant messaging chips" implanted in their brains in the future. The accompanying illustration shows Greg thinking "u r a dork" while Rowley responds ":(".
